 Dubbed as a “historicallly accurate Maya simulator” and praised by critiques for its unique gameplay and stunning artwork, Ahau: Rulers of Yucatán is an innovative hybrid strategy board game, combining simultaneous area selection,worker placement, action selection, tableau building, resource management and deck improvement.

Ahau is a homage to the breathtaking Maya culture, bringing their history closer to the players. Set in the Classic Period of the Maya, the game has a fascinating and immersive theme. Every element of Ahau has been lovingly balanced to provide you with the most engaging and challenging gameplay.

 The first official expansion of Ahau: Rulers of Yucatáns adds 14 Eclipse cards, 6 additional role cards, 5 building tiles and 10 special pyramid tiles, to enhance your Ahau experience. The Eclipse event cards provide more opportunities and challenges for scoring, resource conversion, summoning, and strategic gameplay in each round. Eclipse introduces us to the history-shaping, cataclysmic and mythical events of the Classic Period. 

The game is all about constructing your pyramid, capital and sending workers to cities to collect resources and gain control. Pick up the pyramid tiles to use their powers and build them into your player board.  The game will unfold in  multiple K’atuns, and each K’atun multiple rounds. 

MOVEMENT PHASE 

Players secretly choose two cards from their hand, the left hand indicating the region a player wishes to occupy with their Ruler. If multiple players selected the same region, a conflict is triggered, which will be decided by the value of the right-hand card plus any weapons.  Finally, each player will take a pyramid tile from the region occupied by their Ruler.   

ACTION PHASE 

During the Action Phase, each player may place a worker in a city adjacent to that region; summon a god of that city; and produce resources or build pyramid tiles / building tiles (optional).  At the end of each K’atun, players can gain Fame for the status of their pyramid temple, and the status of the common temples.
